Even Vampires Get the Blues The Dark Ones Book 4 Katie Macalister Books

A nice little elf who finds lost things meets a snarky vampire who lost a statuette he really needs so his mom won't lose her soul. A sort of romance develops as they search for the statuette together. This story seems unwieldy and few of the characters are likeable. The elf has no self-confidence and the vampire is cold and unbelievable although a sort of romance develops between them. The elf's best friend, a fairy, denies being a fairy and insists that she is an underwear model. Sort of funny.

Even Vampires Get the Blues The Dark Ones Book 4 Katie Macalister Books Reviews

Prepare for all new characters, which isn't a bad thing. MacAlister creates interesting and colorful dialogue to go with romance and the twists of turns of mystery.
I absolutely love these books. I couldn’t put them down. I would spend an entire night reading this book. So before you even begin reading,You should know that you’re not going to be doing anything else.
I'm a little dissapointed & I'll tell you why. I've come to expect great things from Katie Mac- no let me rephrase- I've come to expect fantasticly huge, gigantic surprises and fun from Katie Mac. She is one of my all time favorite authors AND one of the authors that I consider paves the way for eveyone else to follow in the paranormal romance genre. Even in her romance where there is no paranormal she kicks major butt and I fall in love with her leading characters despite myself. I've always been pleasurably surprised...until now.

Don't get me wrong this story was alright, I guess. But for a few bright exeptions (yes the Butterfly World scene cheif among them) this book just didn't dazzle me with Katie Mac's usual spark of brilliance. Deep sigh. Let's hope the next Aishling Gray in Mac's series holds up.

If your still interested in the book...Paen Scott, a Scottish Lord ( who doesn't speak like a scottsman but rather an Englishman, big difference), has a lesser demon visit to tell him dear old dad, who has trod off to the forests of Bolivia, forgot to mention something. He promised to give a demon lord a statue of the monkey god or forfeit Paen's mothers soul. Obviousley Paen is distressed, especially when he finds out he only has 5 days now to turn over the statue & by the way it's nowhere to be found.

Paen turns to a half sun elf/diviner named Sam, who has just opened her detective business to hunt missing objects down. She & her lingerie model/fairy cousin are on the case. However they kind of seem to be miserably bad detectives and they also end up doing nearly every sterotypical thing they shouldn't due. Noelle from early Dark One books shows up to help interrogate a 6 armed poltergeist named Rueben & some kilt clad ghosts wander around a bit.

I had a problem with liking the main charachter, Paen, other than his accent or lack there of. He goes out in noon day sun. Hmmm, ok, let me see...oh, yeah, HE'S a DARK ONE!!! AKA vampire. Sure Christian in Mac's other books in the series could tolerate being covered up & out in the last rays of the day, but not at noon! And all the action takes place over 5 days but 2 of those are skipped through since the couple are in different cities! I just don't feel happy about this one.It lacks the best aspects of the series.
Such a great fun book. Wonderful characters, well written, magic, mayhem and fun all the way. I highly recommend this great series
The novel can be read independently from the first three dark ones novels as none of the previous characters cross over. The book is a bit lose with the sun rules for the dark ones but otherwise it is entertaining. I think the sun rules where broken somewhat as the main female character is a sun elf.

The one criticism with this and the second and third novels, is that the ending is almost anticlimatic and gets wrapped up too quickly for my taste. I will though continue to read the series it is not enough of a negative to make me stop reading.
I am a little behind on my reading but I finally got to this this book.

I enjoyed the store very much. Like the other books from Katie Macalister this one was funny and fun to read. I enjoyed Paen and Sam's relationship which grows to love throughout the book.

Samantha Cosse is an investigator.

Paen is a Dark One, a vampire, without a soul.

Sam is first hired to find a manuscript then Paen hires her to find a statue that would save his mother's soul. Both Sam and Paen not knowing that the two are connected.

This book is fast paced and full of action, pain, and of course, love. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good read.
I love Katie's books, but this one left me lukewarm. I read it immediately after finishing Nell and Adrian's story which was the FUNNIEST, BEST book of all of them so far.

I just feel that Katie wasn't into writing this story either. Like maybe she HAD to write one.

So, I do understand about obligations and deadlines. But I think if Katie were to re-read this book she would wince several times and ask herself WTF was I doing?? Maybe a rewrite? I dunno.

I'm on to the next with fingers and toes crossed!!
