A very different story. I liked it, but yet it had such a dark feeling to it. I had to finish it to see how it ended, but it made me feel very depressed. I was glad to be done with it.
Wallace was a fantastic author, his stories have a smooth flow, keep the readers interest, often he inserts a spark of romance, and his characters are believable. Anyone that enjoys a good mystery will find his books a good read.
Plot twists until the end. I didn't see the last one coming, and I often can predict them. A quick read over the weekend; I couldn't put it down.
This was an intriguing mystery, and I found it complicated to follow--possibly because I had to put it down with periods in between which distracted me from the story. If you really get into carefully following all the clues and can keep track of them all you will like this.
Although I had guessed the killer's identity about 3/4 of the way through, all the details which lead up to the unmasking were uncommonly interesting, so that the ending was still suspenseful and enjoyable.
I agree with another reviewer who called this book dark and depressing. There's too much evil in it for my taste. Fortunately, it does have a happy ending.
What with all the mysteries I read, was surprised I hadn't read this author before. He is a very good writer and keeps you interested in the story all the way to the end. I now have three more of his books ion my library to read. So many books to read, but not enough time to finish them all before buylng more.
