Wicked Appetite Lizzy and Diesel Janet Evanovich Books
I wanted to like it. I grew up near Salem and thought I would enjoy the local references. I enjoy quirky stories and the supernatural but this one did not catch my interest at all. A strange man just shows up and the main character just lets him follow her around and even sleep in her bed becausehe's good looking - not believable. He never fully explains himself and yet she just blindly follows him. The dialogue is inane. The only marginally interesting story line was the friend who is a wannabe witch in training. Overall, I was very disappointed in a lackluster story by a well known author.

Wicked Appetite Lizzy and Diesel Janet Evanovich Books Reviews
This is a really fun new series from Evanovich, that has some delightful characters (including a talented monkey named Carl) and a touch of the supernatural. As you would expect, it is not great literature, but it is exactly the sort of book that is good for whatever ails you. I often laugh out loud reading Janet Evanovich's books, and this was no exception. The protaganist bakes cupcakes for a living and is living a sedate and orderly life until cousins Wulf and Diesel make an appearance. Her co-workers and customers at the bakery are a goofy bunch, and it is all good fun, with a glimpse of The Dark Side. The book is cleverly plotted and reaches a satisfactory conclusion, with the caveat that more is expected in the next episode. If you need a lift and have enjoyed her previous books, I highly recommend it.
Get a grip out there all of you sanctamonious over thinking zealots! It's fiction. Aimed at an audience with a sense of humor. And an understanding that, while the majority of us dont want our kids to think we have a sexual appreciation of the better points of our partners, our partners sure do! Many wont speak of it, but like to dream of it. And an unsure, unsuccessful, smart but quirky late 20's early 30's dealing with life the best she can while still liking herselfis NOT a failure. Just average. Smart dialogue, careful plotting, clever foreshadowing, hallmarks of anything Evanovitch adds her name to, all are here. All present, along with sizzling dialogue and the type of laughter a reader just cant hold in!
This story is full of characters and it begins in a New England town known
As Marblehead. The caricature Lizzy is a cupcake maker and working in
A pastery shop called Dazzle when a character named Wolf calls for Lizzy
To come outside and he burns the top of her hand, and says I will be
Back for you.
I'm a big fan of Janet Evanovich. I loved "One for the Money" and have read every book in the Plum series. Even though it's getting beyond repetitive at this point, Janet still makes the Plum books fun to read and I still laugh out loud at her stories. I'm set to purchase number 19 in November and looking forward to it too.
So why, WHY, did we need to create a nightmare of a Plum spinoff in the form of the "Wicked" series?
When I first began reading the book, the writing was so horrid that I wondered if maybe Evanovich's doppelganger had played a dirty trick on all of us. Could this really be the witty Evanovich's work? I couldn't believe it. The characters are recycled versions of dear Stephanie and Morelli only Lizzy is ten times more annoying considering her involvement in the story is minimal at best; and Diesel should just be shot... really, get it over with. Carl the monkey?? Can't even comment.
It's unbelievably sad that I would ever rate Evanovich's work 2-stars. For any that haven't read the Plum series and are considering this book as their first sample of Evanovich's writing... STOP! Go read "One for the Money" and enjoy. Navigate away from this page while you still have a chance. And don't look back.
It's even sadder that I couldn't even finish this book even though I really tried. The book's concept started out so interesting as though it were about to break into a great fantasy story, but it just took a horrible turn for the worse. I'm deeply sorry, Janet, but I can't read this book. It's bad.... So very bad.
This book started out really funny, but as it got into this highly far fetched story a bit of the comedy began to wear off. Still Lizzy and her somewhat magical partner were still on the search for four enchanted jewelry insects as the cast of half wit characters around them tried to keep the mood upbeat, the fantasy of escapism for the reader did its job as the book is easy to read and you still have the desire to keep reading in the effort to discover "what's next." A decent read but no Stephanie Plum novel.
My second time reading this series, which is a lot of fun to visualize. Lizzy is a fantastic cup cake maker and Diesel is a hunk and a man of mystery. Diesel is a "unmentionable" with unique powers that are not really explained. Lizzy has the ability to sense if objects are special, as in magical, etc. Wild is Diesel' s brother who does not work for the good team. So begins the search for special objects. So the quest begins and Lizzy and Diesel team up with a monkey named Carl and a one eyed cat named Cat7143. The bakery shop owner Clara and Glo the clerk up front who sells the products adds more complications to finding the objects. A great relaxing read.
If you liked the Stephanie Plum Between the Numbers books, you'll most likely find this book to your taste. Wicked Appetite brings Diesel to Salem, Mass, and into the life of a lady baker whose only a little less magical than he, and two of her friends who are human, and a couple of more who aren't, but still add humor and character to the plot. I had to drop a star due to Mrs. Evanovich's insistence on leaving the "of" out of every "couple fill in the blank" which jerks me out of her story telling like a bucket of ice water in my face. It's a unit of measure. A pound of flesh. A rasher of bacon. A couple of hours. Not a couple hours. It drives me to drink! Put those ofs to work and I'll see about my 5-stars.
